Baryte has taken from Greek word brays and its means heavy therefore baryte has specific gravity 4.2-4.5 typically it is white in color and also found in gray and brown color

It is hard 3-3.5 on the moh scale

It is used in oil and gas it is also used as a pigment, functional filler, and density additive in paints, plastics, rubber, paper, and automotive brake linings.
